The pros and cons of e-learning at Al-Istiqlal University

 

Distance education is becoming more and more in demand worldwide and so changes in general in personal (face-to-face) classes began to shift to Virtual classes. Learning places are transformed and can be done at home, public places,
and so on. Time and place is no longer a barrier to learning activities because it can be done online. Online learning is carried out by utilizing existing technology through media that uses the internet to carry out learning process Such as cellophanes and laptops.

This research deals with the pros and cons of e-learning process during COVID-19 at Al-Istiqlal University. The researcher used a questionnaire as an instrument to perform the study on languages student's department at Al-Istiqlal University. The aim was to highlight the positive and negative experience which languages student's department face while using online technologies in learning. The pros include: the chance to learn from home, and so the opportunity to save money, and to check the acquired in formation anytime. On the contrary the cons of e-learning process include: the absence of a continuous live communication, electricity and internet problems, and the long time spent by students on laptops.

Based on the research findings some recommendations were made such as:

increasing the overall effectiveness of distance education, by replacing conventional training programs and considering new teaching methods and interdisciplinary elements, and adopting abroad, open-minded view of educationtechnology implementation observing the overall social practices of using online tools in real-life situations and reflecting the best practices in the learning environment.
